Her parents may like mercedes until it breaks. Have to figure in cost of repair into the cost of the car. Newer car is probably cheaper overall and most comfortable. I've been there, I've had lots of used cars most I got for less than two grand. Remember, usually parents have their own ideas about things that aren't always the best so tell her to look at lots of different cars and weigh the benefits, even if she thinks she wouldn't like it. Same thing happened to me BTW, girlfriends dad wanted to get her an old mercedes roadster that was like $16k and normally sold for $30k still. We said we'd rather have a Z :) good luck
